I’m an artist/educator based in Margate in Kent and founder of GoCreate.co.uk which runs creative workshops and events. My primary practice is oil painting and over the years my painting has journeyed from realism to smudgy impressions. I also have secondary and tertiary projects and artforms which allow me to explore materiality, processes and to […]Read More »

This may all lend itself to a “ break and make “ session of craft where something is destroyed in order to make it.

Who would have thought there would be a posh word for putting broken crockery together. Well there is, ‘Picasiette’, and we teach it here at the Margate studio.

If you have an ugly piece of crockery hovering between charity shop, birthday gift or landfill there is yet another alternative… A Go Create mosaic class specialising in picasiette mosaic. Who knew having so much fun breaking ceramic, making pretty designs and giving unique gifts could also save the planet, (well at least save the trip to a landfill site)

You may not have known we’re proud of our sustainability focussed classes and this one is great because it’s bit of everything: relief, drawing, colour theory, composition…all disguised as having a laugh. Plus we’ll throw in the relief of using a hammer to break something..legally!!!!! Just keep away from our kitchen as we serve free tea and coffee refreshments.

Picassiette can be used to upcycle furniture or to create triviates, to decorate paths and to create quiry pictures and wall hangings.

During this workshop, you’ll learn how to cut crokery using tools to retain design details and also how to smash crockery safely to create random pieces for use.   We’ll have some bases which are free but also some shaped pieces ie decorative wall bases which can be purchased on the day (ranging from £1-£5 plus plenty of broken crockery to use. You’re also welcome to bring along your own crockery to use.
We’ll demonstrate grouting and depending on how dry your pieces are there may be an opportunity to grout your pieces on the day. Or, we’ll supply some grout for you to finish your mosaic at home.

So think of us the next time you’re clearing out any crockery, or if you’re looking for something you can honestly say you magically made out of a plate, teapot or cup. If you’re going to break your daily routine come to our studio..here’s a hammer.
