Your best two pieces will then be fired and glazed in a colour of your choice (subject to variations in the glaze itself), and should be available for collection approximately 4 weeks later and will be available for collection from Margate. Pieces need to dry out thoroughly which can take up to 2 weeks before going into the kiln for the first firing. They then need to be matched up for colour choice and dipped before firing to 1200 degrees. Depending on the volume we may need to fire in different kiln loads – each process requires kilns to be fired up top temperatures and then cooled down. Final pieces then need to be sorted once again ready for collection. Occasionally pieces do not survive but we try to ensure that as many as possible do.
Pease note that pieces can be posted out for an additional £5/piece paid at the workshop on the day. This workshop is suitable for children and adults but all children must be accompanied by a paying adults. We do run some workshops just for children and young people. There is an additional charge if you would like further pieces fired and glazed – small pieces are usually £1-£2 extra. Medium pieces i.e. mug size £3-4. We keep pieces for up to 3 months after notification i.e. 4 months after the workshop date.
