Get to grips with watercolour

with our tried and tested  1 day intensive course led by art coach Kirsty Kennedy

This workshop is aimed at complete beginners and even for those with some prior experience.

Watercolours can be used to add colour to sketches, for illustration, to create gift cards, tags and even for lettering. What can start as a hobby can also lead to a small enterprise. Its perfect for who want to dabble with painting without risking damage to carpets and furnishings. Set up costs are fairly minimal and it lends itself to use on holidays and when space is limited.

Starting out on your own can be frustrating and daunting and this course is specifically designed to help students quickly understand the medium and quickly find a their route in and make progress. as this course is led by Kirsty Kennedy.

COURSE FORMAT

During the morning, you’ll get to trial different brushes and learn different techniques. You’ll be taken through a series of carefully devised exercises to help you fully appreciate how best to work with brush and colour, to achieve more effective results and will create some annotated test sheets for future reference. We’ll discuss watercolours paper types and you will have the opportunity to experiment on different types and will quickly learn which type is best suited.

In the afternoon there will be further exercises to help develop skills including basic colour mixing, a demonstration on how to stretch watercolour paper and how to apply some of the effects from the morning sessions.

There will be time to put your new skills into action and freedom to experiment. Plants, still life objects and reference material and an art coach will all help inspire.

Please note you do not need drawing skills or prior painting experience to take this workshop. This course is also a popular gift choice to inspire a compact and enjoyable new hobby.

WHAT TO BRING 
We provide a couple of good quality watercolour sheets and some smaller sample pieces. Feel free to bring a watercolour pad or sketchbook to collate test pieces in. We provide paints and brushes but you are also welcome to bring your own. 


LUNCH
Light refreshments are provided. Please note that we will break for lunch between 12.30-1.30. We are located close to the Old Town and the beach is approximately 5 minutes away would you prefer to bring a packed lunch and to enjoy lunch at the beach or to gather some photographic reference to inspire artworks in the afternoon.
