I’m an artist/educator based in Margate in Kent and founder of GoCreate.co.uk which runs creative workshops and events. My primary practice is oil painting and over the years my painting has journeyed from realism to smudgy impressions. I also have secondary and tertiary projects and artforms which allow me to explore materiality, processes and to […]Read More »

Ceramics doesn’t get much hotter than this!

Decorate bisque fired ceramic pieces and see the Japanese glaze firing process first hand.  You don’t even have to be a beginner or particularly into ceramics – just come  for the experience. Each participant will glaze 2 hand-thrown or slip cast bisque fired pieces.   Painted pieces are placed in a special gas fired outdoor kiln.  Whilst stopping for some food (veggie or pork dough balls) which is included, the pieces will be glaze fired – its that quick! Afterwards, the fired pieces will be removed carefully before being cleaned and polished ready to take home.

During the unveiling  a few participants will actively support in the process.  As the pieces come out of the kiln participants begin to catch a glimpse of the spectacular effects and the Raku aesthetic: no wonder its addictive. When pieces are cooled down sufficiently we all get to clean and polish off our pieces ready to take home. Woooh how exciting!

Ceramic painting (12-1pm) decorate bisque fired ceramic pieces and see the Japanese glaze firing process first hand. Then walk away with your finished pieces. You don’t even have to be a beginner or particularly into ceramics – just come  for the experience. Each participant will glaze 2 hand-thrown bisque fired pieces. Think ceramic cafe with a super hot twist.  Painted pieces are placed in a special gas fired outdoor kiln. We then stop for lunch which is included (home made pork or veggie dough balls)
Raku Glaze firing (2- 3.00pm)  After lunch we watch the spectacular unloading of the kiln ( and a few participants will actively support in the process). Think camp fire, dustbins, sawdust, smoke with some health and safety compliance. Nonetheless this is an experience and a half.  This makes conventional kiln firing seem rather dull and as the pieces come out of the kiln participants begin to catch a glimpse of the spectacular effects and the Raku aesthetic: no wonder its addictive. When pieces are cooled down sufficiently we all get to clean and polish off our pieces ready to take home. Woooh how exciting!
 Absolute beginners are welcome
