Immerse yourself in this colourful pastime.

This course covers both traditional mosaic techniques together with some cool environmental approaches to generating your own mosaic piece, using recycled materials including dodgy chintz and broken crockery. We’ll even show you exciting methods for creating and incorporating mosaic into 3D sculptural forms – Your imagination will simply burst open.  During this week long course, you’ll work on your own projects. indoor pictures, mirrors, a table top or crazy creations such as a contemporary sundial or abstract sculptural form. Bring along your own ideas and sourcebook or let us inspire you during the week.

COURSE SUITABILITY: The course is suited to absolute beginners as well as improvers, children and adults (children must be aged 7+ and accompanied by an adult). For students with some mosaic experience, we’ll look in more depth at Colour Theory, Light and Shade, Line and Form, Perspective and Composition.  Also ‘Andamento’ – flow or movement and tile spacing which effect mosaic. ‘Opus’ – tile laying techniques will be explored and experimented with.

how to smash up dodgy plates & other recycled items safely

how to create  3D sculptural forms for mosaic suitability of work for outdoor
final polishing and finishing techniques

WHAT TO WEAR: It is recommended that you bring a pair of shoes with covered in toes, a long sleeved sweater and sturdy leg wear (such as jeans) for working in the studio, as pieces of glass/ceramic can sometimes fly off with some force when being cut and shaped.

WHAT TO BRING: Please bring a ‘Sourcebook’ of inspirational images, colours, wallpaper samples, fabrics etc. so that we can help you to plan a mosaic in your own style and design.

If you’re looking for more time to practice and guidance from an experienced mosaic artist or to enjoy making in the company of others then why not opt for a weekend or week long course. Our week long courses are designed for those new to mosaic and also those returning.
