Basic mosaic materials are included. A Selection of materials such as millefouri and smalti will also be available for purchase during the course.
We can supply materials for set beginner projects. There is a charge for mirror bases, wall hanging, bird boxes and 3D sculptural bases but basic supports i.e. flat wood boards are available. Further guidance and support on projects and items/bases that you can bring will be given on course booking as many items can be recycled or given a make-over. With a little imagination its often possible to consider simple items around the home or in the garden that could lend themselves to a make-over.

Please note that each student will be coached according to their current level to ensure that their mosaic skills advance.
For students with some mosaic experience, we’ll look in more depth at Colour Theory, Light and Shade, Line and Form, Perspective and Composition. Also ‘Andamento’ – flow or movement and tile spacing which effect mosaic. ‘Opus’ – tile laying techniques will be explored and experimented with.
Suitable for all levels.
It is recommended that beginners take a shorter course before committing to a week long course. just to be sure that mosaic is for them Most students find mosaic making a very therapeutic pastime and quite addictive. Each student will be coached according to their current level and as well as plenty of mosaic making time
In the early stages, beginners will be encouraged to tackle specific mosaic exercises to develop up skills such as a coaster or mosaic wall hanging before embarking on more ambitious projects.
WHAT TO BRING: Please bring a scrapbook of inspirational images, colours, wallpaper samples, fabrics etc. so that we can help you to plan a mosaic in your own style and design.
Please also bring a packed lunch each day.
WHAT TO WEAR: It is recommended that you bring a pair of shoes with covered in toes, a long sleeved sweater and sturdy leg wear (such as jeans) for working in the studio, as pieces of glass/ceramic can sometimes fly off with some force when being cut and shaped.
TAKING WORK HOME:
Mosaic items can be heavy and bulky. Please pre-plan how to take work home at the end of the course particularly if working on larger items such as table tops, bird baths and other bulky items.
COURSE SUITABILITY: The course is suited to absolute beginners as well as improvers, children and adults (children must be aged 7+ and accompanied by an adult).
BOOKING TERMS Date changes or cancellations are possible with no charge more than 4 weeks notice from the course start. Cancellations with two weeks to one month from the course start incur a 50% charge. No refund will be given within 2 weeks of the course start. We do however allow people to send someone else in their place – simply let us know the name of the person who will take your place in advance.
