WHAT TO BRING
Please bring a selection of fancy, broken crockery plus any broken ornaments (local charity shops can often save these back and offer them for free).
Please bring a packed lunch. You are also welcome to bring soft bottled drinks.
NB Outdoor mosaic items can be heavy and bulky. If travelling by public transport it is best to make a few smaller items or pre-plan collection after the workshop.
COURSE SUITABILITY: The course is suited to absolute beginners as well as improvers, children and adults (children must be aged 7+ and accompanied by an adult).
- Health and safety
- How to make outdoor 3D mosaic items including the selection or creation of bases to ensure longevity
- Tile cutting and planning a mosaic design
- Those with some mosaic experience will be coached in more advanced concepts such as flow
- How to grout
Please note that each student will be coached according to their current level to ensure that their mosaic skills advance.
For students with some mosaic experience, we’ll look in more depth at Colour Theory, Light and Shade, Line and Form, Perspective and Composition. Also ‘Andamento’ – flow or movement and tile spacing which effect mosaic. ‘Opus’ – tile laying techniques will be explored and experimented with.
WHAT TO WEAR: It is recommended that you bring a pair of shoes with covered in toes, a long sleeved sweater and sturdy leg wear (such as jeans) for working in the studio, as pieces of glass/ceramic can sometimes fly off with some force when being cut and shaped.
TAKING WORK HOME:
Mosaic items can be heavy and bulky. Please pre-plan how to take work home at the end of the course particularly if working on larger items such as table tops, bird baths and other bulky items.
BOOKING TERMS Date changes or cancellations are possible with no charge more than 4 weeks notice from the course start.
