  • Master sculptors trained on a small scale often starting with parts of the face. Working in that tradition before tackling the full head in a separate class, learn classical sculpting skills: working the clay, how to measure, use equipment, observe and criticize your efforts. Your finished work whether that be a nose, ear, lips or eye will be a momento like no other. During this taster session we’ll be working from plaster cast body parts – cast from real morals.

  • Family slot

Introducing our new family slot specifically designed for families who want to spend some time together creating pottery using handbuild techniques. Suitable for children from 4-14. All children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult. With young children we know that parents may need to help out which is why we’ve priced this session to include one free parent with one or two children.

This session currently runs on the first Saturday of each month (we will probably increase this to every other week as soon as demand builds).  We will fire and glaze your best two pieces. We can teach how to make bowls and cups. If you wish to attend on a regular basis we can retain pieces at the bisque stage so that you can return to paint the pieces.

  • Ceramics doesn't get much hotter than this!

Decorate bisque fired ceramic pieces and see the Japanese glaze firing process first hand.  You don't even have to be a beginner or particularly into ceramics – just come  for the experience. Each participant will glaze 2 hand-thrown or slip cast bisque fired pieces.   Painted pieces are placed in a special gas fired outdoor kiln.  Whilst stopping for some food (veggie or pork dough balls) which is included, the pieces will be glaze fired – its that quick! Afterwards, the fired pieces will be removed carefully before being cleaned and polished ready to take home.

During the unveiling  a few participants will actively support in the process.  As the pieces come out of the kiln participants begin to catch a glimpse of the spectacular effects and the Raku aesthetic: no wonder its addictive. When pieces are cooled down sufficiently we all get to clean and polish off our pieces ready to take home. Woooh how exciting!

This particular course looks at the making of plaster moulds for slip-casting, including the creation of single-part or multi-part moulds for the ceramic artist. And yes we can explore the special mould making considerations for those work with glass.

Some experience of clay and kiln firing is desirable for this course but is not essential.
