Wheel thrown pottery introduction (London)

A new experience with clay
Trial the wheel under the guidance of an experienced potter and practitioner. Its tricky so we keep class sizes small. This 2.5 hour workshop gives enables you to learn in a group of no more than 6 students and you’ll each have a wheel to work from. The workshop includes demonstrations and plenty of hands-on practice with your 2 best pieces fired and glazed.

The posh aunt in clay terms

Porcelain is no doubt the posh aunt in clay terms – she’s difficult to work with but has a magnificent quality that has to be admired. You’ve just got to know how to handle her properly – that’s where our experts come in. Our experts will help explain why porcelain is tricky to handle and will provide some expert tips to get you started with porcelain and work her to her best advantage whilst watching for pitfalls.

Raku glaze firing (London)

Includes firing, glazing bisque items, and lunch

Think ceramic cafes with a super hot twist. Learn about the raku glaze firing technique whilst participating in this spectacular workshop. Each participant will paint a couple of bisque pieces which will then be loaded into the outdoor gas fired kiln.  We’ll then stop for lunch which is included whilst the pieces are being fired – its that quick! After lunch pieces will be removed carefully and pieces gently unloaded before being cleaned and polished ready to take home.

This course covers the design and build of clay animal figures for kiln firing. The emphasis is on style development and construction for firing. We’ll cover contemporary approaches including basic to advanced construction, modelling and texturing techniques.

This popular week-long course is suitable for beginners and improvers and is led by a professional, gallery represented ceramic artist. You’ll learn with a blend of theory and practice in a comfortable studio environment. Handbuild is the focus but we’ll also trial the wheel.
